About Me

Thomas Goodman links: My Coaching Page - My Facebook Page - Eugene Soccer

I was born in Vancouver, Canada, to an English mother (Terrie) and American father (Kent). In my early years, the family moved around the Pacific Northwest quite a bit, with much of my time spent near the Canadian border in places like Bellingham, Washington.  I began playing soccer when I was just five years old in Washington State, and kept playing throughout my school years. Also in Washington I was involved in 4H and Scouting, I won several awards in 4H including Cavy Fitting and Showing State Champion, and Rabbit State Resurve Champion. I also won awards in Public Speaking, and won several state awards. In scouting I recieved the highest rank of Eagle Scout and was the leader for my troop for 2 years.

In the early 1990s my family and I moved to England. I went right to college (6th form) where I studied a GNVQ in Business studies and an A level in Sociology. I still played soccer but my skills I had acquired by then weren't up to British standards. I trained hard in that country, learning how to move on and off the ball, tactics and vastly improving my skills. I joined the ATC for 4 years and was in short a weekend warrior

During this time my other sport started to take off. I got excepted into the Olympic Mountain biking team in 1997. I changed my focus to 70% mountain biking and 30% soccer, I would ride 5 hours in the morning and go to school and then ATC then 4 hours at night, so I was very busy. I also attended the University of Plymouth in Business Studies with Aroma and Formulation Science, during this time I was Playing professional soccer for a English U21 team Torquay united. (I was the first American to join the team). Not only was I doing all this but a lot of my time was spent at the club Djing at local venues and I got to play with some of the big boys in techno: Norman Cook, Chemical Brothers, Sash and Paul Van Dyke

Disaster struck in early 2000 with a mountain bike crash in Plymouth England that would end my mountain biking as well as my soccer playing career. I hit a tree at over 65 miles per hour Destroying both legs arms and several ribs, I also tore my liver and ruptured my spleen... That ended my career as a soccer player, and mountain biking, and most of my life in England.

Life Two:

What I like to call "Life Two" I returned to the States in 2000, I got a job with RightNow Technologies. I was the assistant soccer coach for the Bozeman, Montana team. The team did very well the two seasons I coached. I also got into snow boarding which I was very bad at... very... I think I still hurt.

I finally moved to Eugene. I worked for 5 years at the UofO and 2 years at Excalibur Cutlery, now I am a student at the University of Oregon and am running my own soccer club Eugene Soccer Club!  Me and my wife Amber got married on July 3rd 2004 in Bozeman Montana and our Son Amsel was Born Sept 2nd 2005. Our second child is on his way, and is due May 2011.

People who know me from "Life One" would never belive how much I changed.  If you are looking for me, I'm on the soccer field coaching 1 of the 3 teams I coach or at home doing homework or spending time with the family!
